This collection includes images from the evidence room of robberies and murders, mostly from the 1920’s to 1940’s. The photographers of these crime scenes went on to heavily inspire a lot of the Film noir genre. Photographers such as Wee Gee then went on to work with directors such as Stanley Kubrick on horror and thriller feature films.

Whilst a lot of the images where gory and graphic, they tend not to repulse but intrigue. The subjects are regularly depicted tenderly, they inspire empathy with the subject and a sense of intrigue.

The images were taken to record evidence to try and solve what happened at the scene, and they leave the viewer asking the same questions as the investigators of the era. We take the time to spot the clues and to piece together a little bit of what happened; how they died, who the people were and what they were doing at the scene.

Scene of the Crime is a homage to Scott’s interest in this vast collection of photographs. The project examines crime scenes in the moments after life, it's a project looking at murder and death and giving an insight to the reasons behind the crimes.

Scott's idea for this project had been looming for nearly a year but he needed a little help to make the project come alive. He came to us with one of the most beautifully written, meticulous briefs and we were stoked that someone of Scott’s stature was looking to work with us. His mentality and professionalism, combined with the Gather.ly network meant we could come together to show the world a great project that would inspire and mentor photographers from all backgrounds and interests. We’re proud to have been part of such an exquisite piece of work, and ecstatic to be able to share it with you.

Thanks Scott.

Enjoy...
